Pack your bags.
Three words that can send elation and anxiety hurling through the most seasoned sojourners brain waves. Me, personally, I love to pack for a trip. I lay out every single outfit for each of the days I will be gone. And just like Seventeen Magazine taught me in the 80’s, I make sure everything can double up. Like the cute daytime t-shirt turns snazzy at night underneath a jacket with the right pair of pants.
Something my tween read didn’t teach me, that I do all on my own, is pack a little something sassy too. An outfit or accessory that stands alone, embodying independence as it anticipates being pulled out of the American Tourister. Often it is something I would not be courageous enough to wear in my own hometown, because let’s face it, when you’re on a trip you’re there to get away from the normal humdrum of every day life.
A tight sleek dress might have everyone in the restaurant whispering, “My doesn’t she look slutty?”
Who cares? Chances are you don’t know anyone and it’s not going to get back to your nosy neighbor, or your kids’ teacher.
Men, break out the pink shirt you’ve been hiding in the closet…hahaha! Not that closet. The one you bought because it looks really good on you and pink is for men too!
My leopard print stilettos are my favorite trip accessory, especially when I put them with a fabulous red dress. An outfit that would have me wearing a “Scarlet A” in my zip code for sure! Being out of town is the perfect time to wear something you know you’ve been dying to but haven’t gotten the nerve yet. Cast off the fear of judgment from your local critics, as long as it makes you feel good and it matches ~ wear it. Be bold, it’s your vacation.
