Sweaty Tunes for March

I’m always open to music that uplifts and artists with a point of view. This month my new music selections range from alternative to R&B to Hip Hop to folk rock and mainstream TV pop.

Yuna
I was introduced to this artist by a friend who is one of the founders of the Fader music label. This is her debut album. It was love at first listen.

Lupe Fiasco
I’m not a big fan of Hip Hop. I have had my fill of swearing and witnessed enough ego induced violence so I”m not interested in hearing music that, in my opinion, glorifies and celebrates anger. To hear artists like Jay-Z, who made $63 million just last year, sing about his the rough city streets rings false to me. He’s been out of the ghetto almost longer than when he was in it. Doesn’t he live in a mansion and a luxury coop with his equally wealthy celebrity wife? Aren’t his best friends the equally gangsta Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow? Even Madonna realized she couldn’t keep singing about sex. She then moved on to spirituality. At some point, we must all transcend our histories and triumph over our pathologies. My friend Cherish told me to give Lupe Fiasco a listen and I liked his message.

Jessie J
Already a sensation in the international music scene, Jessie J is making her way to America. She’s a fresh singer songwriter with her own unique sound. This is the future of pop music.

Yasmin
A former DJ turned pop singer. I love the debut single form Yasmin. Check out the remixes too!

Glee Cast - Loser Like Me
This is one of the original songs from the TV show, Glee. Love this song and I think it’s an anthem for all of us that have felt put down, pushed around and have come back on top.
